Cold & flu season has begun and one thing I realized during my early days as a new parent – I needed a way to keep my son’s medicines separate and easily accessible (yet out of his reach) so they were ready the moment we needed them.

We keep all of our main over the counter medications in a cabinet in our kitchen – well out of reach of our two kids. But … with so many over the counter options for ourselves, our 6 year old, and our 1 year old, the cabinet had gotten out of control.

Beyond being an organizational hazard, I was struggling to locate the correct medicine when needed. Especially in the middle of the night when no parent wants to be frantically searching for the correct bottle. Thus, the need for control. I wanted something simple and effective.

I ended up with 3 clear plastic containers to sort our various medications in. One is dedicated specifically to children’s medicines. I used my Silhouette to make a simple vinyl labels for each container so it’s obvious at a glance where to look.

Then I began sorting our medicines into the correct containers. As I did so, I double checked the expiration dates and disposed of any that were too old.

My cabinet (and my slightly OCD self) were much happier after the medicines were all neatly organized and contained.

Now is a good time to both organize your medications and check the date so you know you have what you need on hand for cold & flu season. It’s also a great time to restock. During the month of November, you can save up to $15 on participating Pfizer products at Walgreens. I found Children’s Advil, Children’s Robitussin, and Children’s Dimetapp (all 3 on sale!) in the Children’s Medicine section near the pharmacy and Centrum Kids one aisle over with the vitamins.
