Road Trip: National Museum of Natural History

My son tracked out last week and literally the moment he was off the bus, the 3 of us were in the car and headed north to visit my parents in Virginia. On Saturday we took a day trip to Washington, D.C. to visit my brother and explore the National Museum of Natural History. I used to take school field trips there myself and it’s been nearly 5 years since I last walked through it.

Supplies: Life is an Adventure collaboration kit from The Lilypad; Roam kit by One Little Bird; From A to B kit by Kaye Winiecki.

The kids loved roaming the building and checking out all the exhibits. There are so many hands on components from things to touch, drawers to pull open, and neat little technological extras. My brother downloaded an app where we could “see” animals when you aimed the phone at the skeletons on exhibit!

For simplicity sake, the only camera I carried was my iPhone. I did, however, ask my brother to bring his DSLR to take a couple shots of me and my daughter with our new Lillebaby CarryOn. Just like our day trip to the National Zoo last year, I was able to leave the stroller behind thanks to having my carrier. This time E walked a lot more, but when those little legs got tired (and at nap time) she was able to cozy up & relax.

I confess, I didn’t mind the extra snuggles and cuddles myself. Is it obvious?

Have you visited the National Museum of Natural History or another of the Smithsonian museums?

  1. That still blows my mind that we were so close! :) also, I had no idea about that app. We weren't at Natural History very long (so crowded and we were so tired by that point). By the way, you look gorgeous- that may be one of my favorite photos of you ever. Allison Barrett Carter recently posted...What Brings PeaceMy Profile
    • You're too sweet! Thank you! And, yes, that museum was getting very crowded by the time we left. I wasn't paying enough attention to notice the app options. My brother saw it and decided to check it out. I'm grateful he did, it was a neat way to further enjoy the exhibits. Crazy we were maybe a mile apart that day! I guess I'll have to send you our itinerary next time. ;)
