My daughter has been baby doll obsessed for quite some time. It started with a little doll her brother selected for her first birthday and has grown over time. Wanting to encourage her nurturing and imagination, I made her a baby doll changing pad to add to her little diaper bag. She uses it for all of her babies from her tiniest one to her larger American Girl Bitty Baby.
This has been one of the most used sewing projects I’ve made for my kids and it’s really quite simple to make. Here is how to create one for a special little one in your life:
- Cotton fabric
- Fleece batting
- Binding tape
- Measuring tape
- Fabric marker
Step 1 Cut a 9″ x 16″ rectangle from your interior and exterior fabrics (or cut 2 rectangles from 1 fabric if you prefer).
Step 2 Stack the 2 fabrics (right side out) with the fleece batting in between.
Pin in place. Mark lines approximately 1/2″ in from edges and add curves to each corner. Sew around all 4 sides. Then sew 2 parallel lines dividing the pad into thirds.
Step 3 Trim off the excess fabric close to your stitches leaving a nice, clean edge.
Step 4 Pin binding around the entire changing pad.
Sew binding to pad. Fold over. Press edges. Sew around the pad again to secure the binding.
Step 5 Add a 2″ strip of velcro approximately 3/4″ from one of the ends.
Fold the pad in thirds. Use your fabric marker to note where the velcro aligns on the other side. Sew on other half of velcro to complete the closures.
That’s it! The baby doll changing pad is complete. Time to make good use of it.
Who will you gift your baby doll changing pad to?
