I adopted Cali from our local SPCA in September 2000. She was my first baby and, while the kids grab a lot of my attention, I try to do special things for her too.

Catnip Fish Toy Tutorial #MyCatMyMuse

Years ago I used to make handmade catnip toys for her and and her furry brother, Chester. It’s been a while and she is in need of new toys so my son and I made a couple of fish shaped fabric ones. He had fun helping me pick out the fabrics, and filling the toys after I had sewn the fish bodies together.

I put together a step-by-step tutorial with the fish pattern in a one page PDF that you can download HERE to create your own.

Beyond handmade toys and lots of cuddles, it’s also important to me to show Cali how much we care about her by choosing high quality, grain free food with a taste she likes. I also prefer natural nutrition options. This lead me to the natural cat food aisle at PetSmart where I found the new Purina Muse®. With Muse® you don’t have to choose between natural nutrition and food that tastes great. Your cat can have both when you choose Muse®.

Purina Muse® offers wet food recipes in Chowder, in Broth, with Toppers, in Gravy and Paté. All are made with real fish or poultry and contain no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Cali prefers fish so I picked up a variety of tuna, sardine and ocean whitefish options for her to try. I appreciate that these each of these offers a 100% complete and balanced meal for adult cats.

Natural has never been so delicious. Put Muse® to the test with our clean plate guarantee.

This was evident in our house from first taste. Cali has always preferred paté canned wet food and I was surprised to watch her devour the gravy style. Then lick the sides of her bowl making sure to get each last bite.

I've not had a cat in a long time, but one of ours had a thing for mushrooms! You could nearly lose a finger trying to give them to her. Although I tend to be more of a dog person, I like cats too. They are amazing creatures. She also used to rattle her bowl of food in my face to wake me up when she was hungry and wanted it open.

Mushrooms?! That's hilarious! The craziest thing this particular cat ever ate were Cheez-its. Even when I went for the plastic storage container, she knew I was grabbing those and came running. There was a time I could count on Cali and her brother, Chester, better than my alarm - waking me for their canned food breakfast.

Great job and great tutorial. I have no idea how to do any of this - but maybe I can buy one for you for my cats? ;) Love this - hope it brings you comfort how well your sweet kitty was loved.

Thanks, Andrea! And what timing for this particular post. I'll happily make a couple for your cats.

Thanks! I thought she was quite beautiful. Of course, I'm biased. :) And, yes, I bet your cat would love them - if she loves catnip they are sure to be a hit.

You're talented. This makes me want to have a cat. You did a great job. I wanted to see Cali jumping around.
    • Sarah Coggins October 14, 2015 at 8:34 pm
Thank you. Ordinarily I bet Cali would have been jumping around & toting these throughout the house. It was unfortunate this timed out with her final days with us. I was amazed she was up for a few pictures. I applied before started showing signs that something was wrong and wasn't even sure if I was going to be able to get the photos with her. Now I'm grateful that I have a few extra final pictures.
