While shopping for items on our list, I spotted craft sticks in our local dollar store recently. I told my daughter to grab a pack knowing we could complete lots of projects with them. As soon as we got home, I got her started on making a Craft Stick Frankenstein for Halloween. Her older brother jumped in on the fun too and the result was 2 adorable creations. I love how this project is so simple and still allows them to express themselves.

Supplies

  • Craft sticks
  • Index card or other small paper
  • Glue
  • Paint and brushes
  • Googly eyes (optional)

Instructions

Step 1 Lay 8 craft sticks on top of the index card and use a pencil to mark the width. Cut off the excess paper.

Step 2 Add glue to the index card piece and carefully place each stick so they are touching on their long sides.

Step 3 Paint the sticks green. Set aside to dry.

Step 4 Paint ends of one craft stick black. This will be used for the “bolts” coming out of Frankenstein’s head so you don’t need to paint the center. Glue to the back of the face sticks.

Step 5 Use black paint to add hair, facial features, and scars/stitches. You could also use a marker to draw them on.

Step 6 Break or cut small pieces from another craft stick and glue to create the “bolts.” This was my son’s idea and a pretty clever one I think. Once they are glued in place, paint the pieces black.

Step 7 Add googly eyes if desired.
