We’re quickly approaching our first track out break from year round school with our first day over 5 weeks ago now. But most traditional schools, including in our own area, are just getting ready to start the year. If you’re prepping to head back to school and take those first day photos, here are a few ideas for memorable shots:
The Outfit
I think one of my favorite parts of the first day of school was putting on a new outfit. Even now I dress my son up to a degree (a collared shirt and khakis – but, for hot & humid July in NC, that’s plenty dressed up!). Grab a new outfit and get ready to smile. When the weather starts to get cooler in a few months, stick that first day outfit in a safe place so it’s ready for photos on the last day of school. This is such a simple & fun way to see how much your kids have grown over the course of the year.
School Year Sign
Signs have become all the rage the last few years. Ours came from Hallmark, but you can find other variations including posters and free printable options to create your own. Or just grab a piece of paper and let your kids decorate it! There’s no wrong way to do it.
Bus Stop
Many parents take a photo at the bus stop on the first day – why not take one on the bus and make this their first day photo? Nothing says back to school like that familiar yellow bus. Just remember to block or blur the bus number and/or school name on any shots you share online for your child’s safety.
Do you have a first day photo tradition or favorite tip?
