My husband’s Fix-It Felix Jr Halloween costume last year had to have a golden hammer. It’s the must have accessory to complete the look. With a little team effort, we made a pretty nice one that worked great for our Halloween cruise along with parties, trunk or treat, and Halloween night.
Planning your own Fix-It Felix costume and want to make a golden hammer? Here are our step-by-step instructions for this simple DIY costume prop.
Supplies
- Foam Core
- Hammer (for tracing)
- Pencil
- X-acto Knife
- Glue
- Newspaper
- Gold Acrylic Paint
- Paint Brush
Instructions
Step 1 Lay your hammer onto a piece of white foam core (the option from the Dollar Tree works perfectly!) and trace the outline.
Step 2 Use x-acto knife to carefully cut out hammer shape from the foam core board.
Step 3 Use the foam outline to trace and cut 3 additional hammer shapes. Stack and glue together to create one ‘hammer.’
Step 4 Mix 2 parts of water with 1 part of glue to create your papier-mâché paste. Tear strips of newspaper. Dip into the paste and carefully wrap your foam hammer shape until completely covered.
Step 5 Once papier-mâché process has dried, paint your hammer using gold acrylic paint. It may take several layers. Allow to fully dry between each.
Your golden hammer is now ready to accessorize your Fix-It Felix Jr costume!
