We spent the first half of the week at Carolina Beach. My husband kept pushing for this vacation and I’m so glad he did. We packed a lot of fun into those few days.
Since traditional schools in the state started the new year on Monday, the beaches were pretty much empty during our visit. We had plenty of room to play and search for seashells. The waves and undercurrent were a bit rough from the tropical storm passing by the NC coast to our north, but both kids had fun and loved running into the water to splash. Thankfully they also enjoyed digging in the sand and building castles so we had a few moments where we could just sit and watch.
Besides playing on the beach, we visited the boardwalk, tasted Britt’s Donuts (apparently very famous though I just heard of them for the first time this summer), and posed for some fun photos.
The boys played a few board games and went to the arcade and Fort Fisher during nap times. I managed to read nearly half of a book. A real, hardback adult fiction book – not a picture book. 😉 We spent an afternoon/evening with friends that moved to the area a little over a year ago. So good to catch up!
We also found 3 geocache, visited the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, rode the ferry, and explored the Maritime Museum in Southport.
Yes, a lot for 4 days and so, so much fun. I felt relaxed and ready to return to “real” life after. Well, almost real life. We still have over a week of track out left to fill with fun!
