Credit goes to our son for picking this year’s theme for our Halloween costumes – Ralph Breaks the Internet. There are so many characters in this movie that it leaves lots of options for costumes (even our Pac-Man costumes from last year would work!). It also worked great for our Halloween on the High Seas cruise on the Disney Dream. Of course we had to get a family photo in Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats.
J.P. Spamley
Spamley was the character that started our theme. Our son chose this as his character for Halloween and we began building our costumes around it. His also started out as what I expected to be the hardest costume to put together, but that changed with one visit to a local thrift store. We got lucky and found both the ribbed turtleneck and green sweater jacket in one shopping trip in August! I truly expected multiple trips and stores.
Our only splurge was the hat. We had no luck finding something similar so I ended up purchasing one online.
Then, of course, he needed a pop-up ad to carry. Using an image from the movie, I recreated the design in Canva. I printed it out on 11×17 paper, adhered it to leftover foam core, and trimmed. Super simple but the perfect accessory.
Fix-It Felix Jr.
My husband selected Fit-It Felix Jr. for his costume. He found everything he needed online to build his own costume – light blue collared shirt, solid blue baseball cap, and Felix patch set. He accessorized with a tool belt, plush Ralph, and of course Felix’s golden hammer.
The golden hammer was a family DIY effort. I made a couple suggestions. Then he and our son worked to bring the vision to life using foam core, papier-mâché, and gold paint.
Comfy Princesses Elsa & Anna
Originally our daughter showed interest in dressing up as Taffeta Muttonfudge. I was going to join her as Vanellope von Schweetz. But then she suddenly threw out a curve ball and told us she wanted to be Elsa.
Truthfully, she’s asked to be Elsa for Halloween a few times in the past. Getting her brother to join us in a Frozen theme? No such luck. This time I realized we had a golden opportunity because Elsa and Anna make an appearance in Ralph Breaks the Internet along with several other Disney princesses. And we could dress up in comfy style! Win win.
Our comfy Elsa costume was super easy to put together. I found the shirt at a consignment sale and purchased the black glitter leggings from Target. Then added ‘Just Let It Go’ and snowflakes to the shirt using my Silhouette and heat transfer vinyl. She requested a wig so I found one online that came with a snowflake clip and bobby pins.

For my own costume, I purchased Anna’s trademark sandwiches t-shirt online and paired it with a plaid shirt thrift store find plus a pair of my own jean shorts. To finish off the look, I added a wig and second hand Converse sneakers.
Family Halloween Fun
Our Ralph Breaks the Internet costumes were fun and comfortable for our cruise as well as a party at home last weekend. Looking forward to bringing them out again next week for Trunk or Treat and, of course, trick or treating around our neighborhood.
