In this month of Gratitude, I am very grateful to have the right to vote and the option to exercise that right early. I took the opportunity to do just that almost 2 weeks ago and cast my ballot for today’s general election.

My son and I were already out that particular afternoon following an appointment to pick up new glasses. On the way home, I detoured to one of the Wake County early voting sites. I try to take at least one of my kids with me each time I vote. This was a great opportunity to do that and walk him through the process of not just voting, but how early voting differs – the times, locations, and even the ability to register that same day if you haven’t already done so.
I also spent time talking to him before and after voting about how I look up my sample ballot each election, and research candidates. Each oval I fill in is a thought out decision about which individual I think will serve in the position the best.
I hope both of my kids appreciate and exercise their own right to vote someday. It’s a great privilege.
If you haven’t already cast your ballot this election and are eligible, be sure to do so before the polls close tonight!
