Road Trip: Virginia

May 25, 2015 Sarah Coggins

Since our son is in year round school, we don’t get summers off and have to squeeze in adventures during our quarterly track outs. Last week we packed up our bags again and this time, just the kids and I, headed north to visit my parents in Virginia. The afternoon we arrived was nice and hot – perfect for a swim in the pool. And our only day able to do so due to the weather. So thank goodness we did get there early afternoon to enjoy!

Supplies: Just Keep Swimming papers by Robyn Meierotto; Guppy kit by One Little Bird.

This was my daughter’s first time swimming. She had been in the pool area at Great Wolf Lodge back in February and even wore her swimsuit, but never got into the water. As much as she loves baths now and splashing, I knew it would be a hit.

We also visited downtown where we stopped by our favorite local bakery to get donuts. (There are none better. Trust me.) Had lunch with a few of my mom’s friends. Got frozen yogurt. (When on vacation what’s better than donuts and frozen yogurt in one day?) Stopped by the local nursery. D spent countless hours running & playing fetch with their dog as well as chasing the geese (see them in the pond?).

As we packed up to head home, I snapped a quick photo to share on Instagram of one of our full suitcases. We’ve had to travel with my son’s Fisher Price Seahorse for almost 6 years now (thanks, Laura!) and now travel with one for his sister too. I also tagged Parents Magazine as I had the latest issue along that, of course, I never had a chance to crack open (maybe this week). What a surprise when I arrived home to find they re-posted my pic!

Halfway through track out, we’re onto the “staycation” portion this week with a few fun adventures planned locally including a tour of the Duke Lemur Center and a Durham Bulls baseball game.

With summer break starting soon for most, what plans do you have this summer? Adventures far or close by?
