Valentine’s Day is right around the corner (as in, hurry, you have a little over a week!). During our 11+ years of marriage, we’ve never been huge gift givers. Seems like we can usually buy whatever we need or want. Perhaps that sounds a little unromantic to some, but we’ve had a good alternative – we give “memories” such as trips or events. It works for us and helps us focus on enjoying our life together & remaining close as a couple.
This year, I decided to do a mix of both to surprise my husband. I headed to Target to pick up items to create a Valentine’s Day gift basket for him that includes a few date night (and day) options for us as well as physical items that tie into some of those date ideas.
Starting in The One Spot section (because really, you know you always have to spend time browsing there too), I found a number of cute basket options to contain the gift. I selected a small desk filing style basket that looked a bit more masculine. Then grabbed a few crafty items to make the “memories” portion of the basket – a two pack of jars, some cute tags, and baker’s twine.
My idea for these items was to create a “date night idea jar” to encourage us to take more dates this year (even if that’s after the kids have gone to bed – whatever works!). The cute tags were all prelabeled with a single word on each: with love, joy, cheers, enjoy, hooray, and wishes. I used those as my jumping off point for my date ideas and quickly jotted down a list:
Once I had my ideas and knew which I wanted to match with each sentiment, I jotted them onto the tags. Nothing fancy. Just handwrote the words. A couple I added a doodle or two. Simple. Easy. Quick.
Next I decorated the jar by simply cutting a long strand of baker’s twine, wrapping the neck of the jar 3-4 times, and tying a knot. I saved one of the tags (with love) specifically to add to it. I tied it on with a loose bow.
Then I placed all of date night idea tags into to the jar and sealed with the lid.
Finally, I arranged the jar and a few fun extras I found while at Target to tie into our date ideas (i.e., trail mix for a hike, a DVD & box of candy for movie night, K-Y® Love, etc) to complete the gift.
I spotted so many cute options for creating your own sweetheart gift basket while at Target so the ideas are limitless. Just remember to add the Cartwheel app to your phone (or login online and print the barcode) before you head to Target to shop. You can save extra every time you shop including 10% off from 2/1 – 2/14/15 on K-Y® Love Sensuality and K-Y® Love Passion.
K-Y® Love is an exclusive item to Target for Valentine’s Day. Find it in the feminine care aisle.
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart? Do you have a special gift or tradition?
