Last fall during a blogging conference, I had the opportunity to attend a live cooking demo with Freddie Prinze Jr. It was fun watching him clearly in his element – cooking and sharing stories.
Supplies: Project Mouse Classic bundle and No 2 elements by Britt-ish Designs & Sahlin Studio.
All of the demonstration attendees were gifted an autographed copy of his cookbook – Back to the Kitchen. I confess, I haven’t cracked it much for the recipes (although we did enjoy trying the recipe for spaghetti squash after receiving one in our Produce Box this summer). It’s the stories he shares in the cookbook that I find so interesting.
Intertwined with the recipes are little nuggets that share a peek into his life. Stories about growing up. Stories about family. Stories about other celebrities.
In one of the stories, Freddie mentions Robin Williams (find it on page 90). He brought it up during the live demonstration. They kept saying “let’s have dinner” and life kept getting in the way. It never happened. Now, it never will.
This resonated with me at the time. Who hasn’t had those moments? The friends or family that you mean to see, want to see, but somehow the actual event of making time to do so never happens. But it hit home even harder after losing my husband’s parents this summer. We don’t regain those lost moments.
Grab your loved ones and make a date. – Freddie Prinze Jr (page 90)
With the busy holiday season quickly approaching, remember to take time. Make those moments happen. Share a meal. Share stories. Share laughs. These are the greatest gifts.
