Vinyl Pouch

Vinyl Pouch

March 30, 2015 Sarah Coggins

I’ve started sewing again and trying to work through some of my fabric stash which includes a remnant of clear vinyl I purchased 4 years ago. I think I had a project idea in mind (I Spy bag maybe?) that just never happened. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and I decided to make a small vinyl bag to toss into the diaper bag to hold “stuff.”  It never fails that I lose one or two smaller items into the depths of the diaper bag. Or just need a couple of the items to pull out and toss into another bag or purse.

Vinyl Pouch

I found a relatively simple tutorial by Vera at Negligent Style blog here. I say “relatively” because having never worked with vinyl before I had a bit of trouble, but I think I could make one of these again pretty easily now that I understand.

Vinyl Pouch: Clip Detail

I did make one small change and added a clip to my strap. I had a 2 pack on hand (something else I purchased for a now forgotten project that also never materialized! I wonder how many of those I have … hmm). Anyhow, I thought the clip would be useful so I could attach the pouch to the outside of my diaper bag, gym bag, etc.

In the end, the project was a huge win. I used up some materials from my stash, now better understand sewing with vinyl, and have a useful new pouch that helps contain a lot of the smaller items that kept getting lost in the diaper bag.

Have you ever sewn with vinyl? Any tricks or tips to share?

I am wanting to get into sewing more, just haven't bought a machine or taken the time. I love this pouch though!! I am about to embark on making my own kitchen curtains because I think all the normal kitchen curtains I find are ugly. I will let you know how that goes. ;)

My machine is nearly 15 years old and was maybe $100? $120? Doesn't take anything fancy. Can't wait to see the curtains you make!
