Voting with my Monkey

October 16, 2017 Sarah Coggins

Last Tuesday my little “monkey” and I stopped to vote before picking up her brother from school. She hopped right into her Lillebaby carrier on my back making it easy for me to keep her close at hand while I did my civic duty.

Locally we had a mayor’s race along with City Council seats and a tax bond. Sadly these never draw the crowds that the presidential election years do. We were in and out in a matter of minutes and my ballot was number 330 for the precinct. I hope by taking my kids and showing them how important even these “little” races are, that they will make the effort to show up and vote when it’s their turn.

After picking up my son a few minutes later, the 3 of us squeezed in for a selfie. It’s one of my favorite photos of us! Amazingly we’re all in focus, looking at the camera, and – their smiles! Those melt this mama’s heart.

When are your local elections?

I think every election that I've done since E and B, at least one of them has been in a carrier! I love that sweet smile! And hope that the desire to vote and perform her civic duty is passed along to her.
