We made a quick trip to the Charlotte area this weekend to celebrate Trent’s cousin’s wedding. D has been counting down for months – ever since they asked him to be the ring bearer. He took the job very seriously too. I was so proud of how well he did from keeping the rings safe to staying quiet & still during the ceremony. He responded and delivered the rings to the minister at the correct moment too. All a huge feat for a 7 year old!
Supplies: Elysian kit by One Little Bird; Birch Tree, Per Diem, and The When {daters} elements by Sara Gleason; All Things New collab from The Lilypad.
The bride & groom met while part of a softball team, hence the cute idea they had to use a softball to carry the rings in.
His sister took the entire event in true toddler fashion from dancing down the aisle before the start of the ceremony to attempting to join the wedding party during the ceremony. That would be when I handed over my phone switched to camera mode and let her snap away. I think there might have been close to 100 photos of feet, chair backs, forehead selfies, etc. Okay, so may be not quite 100 … but a lot! She did get a few pretty good shots too.
I had my Nikon DSLR with me as well for use for a few candid family shots before and after. Even with 2 cameras on me, I failed to get a photo of the 4 of us! I have plenty of the kids alone or with their cousins, but the only photos I came home with of Trent and me? Individual shots with E. Oops. I do recall one of Trent’s uncles taking one of us before the ceremony. Note to self to ask him for a copy.
Any photo is better than no photo though and we do all exist. I even have proof that I got E to wear a bow in her hair and keep it in! This is huge. Finally enough hair to do so and she’ll allow it. Most of the time. 😉
Which reminds me of another important bow – the bowtie. When discussing wedding attire, D asked to wear a bowtie. Specifically the only one we own which is a hand me down from my brother as a little boy. Only one problem – it’s black. The wedding colors were navy and yellow. I already had navy pants and white dress shirt for him plus brown cowboy boots (yay for a wedding in a barn – he was thrilled to “dress up” wearing boots!) so a black bowtie didn’t really work. And finding a yellow bowtie for a boy in the fall? Trickier than it seems.
So last Thursday in true Sarah fashion (I’m all about those last minute crafts!), I whipped up a bowtie using a scrap of yellow fabric in my stash following this tutorial. Super easy, super fast. It looked great and he wore it the entire day including the 2-1/2 hour drive home so it was obviously comfortable too.
How did you spend your weekend?
