Midway at the NC State Fair

NC State Fair 2008

October 19, 2008 Sarah Coggins

Yesterday we went to the North Carolina State Fair.

Waterfall at the NC State Fairgrounds

We spent a couple of hours wandering around the grounds looking at the games and rides (yes, just looking – I refuse to ride something put together in a matter of hours).

Checking out the exhibitions. (How cute is this little guy on top of a hay pile having lunch.)

And enjoying a chuckle at the ever increasing amount of deep fried food options available (this year’s most “famous” new additions being mac & cheese and pecan pie. Seriously. I couldn’t make that up).

We even discovered you could buy various veggies such as broccoli deep fried (although, one might question how healthy they are after you deep fry them and dip them in ranch dressing. Just saying).

Veggies at the NC State Fair

Found this poor fellow near the Expo Center where cows were being auctioned off. (Kind of ironic, don’t you think?)

And we ended our visit touring my favorite section – the flower and garden show. It’s like entering a whole new world as you wander the wooded paths between the exhibits.

All in all, we had a good time and look forward to next year.

How fun! I dont blame you for not wanting to ride anything- lol. Did you try any of the fried stuff? The mac and cheese sounds kind of good although how do you fry it? lol.

Great pics Sarah, I feel like I was there! That goat pic is too funny. I could have eaten a funnel cake, but that other stuff sounds ....too weird!

Wow! I love seeing these pictures! Gosh, your fair is late in the season. That's really interesting. Ours is so tied to agriculture that they have to hold it before harvest time.

Love seeing those food pics, Sarah! :-) I do not remember seeing deep fried mac n cheese at our fair, but I'll be watching for it next time! And I can only imagine how many calories deep fried pecan pie would have! Mercy!! lol Thx for sharing!!

Looks like a fun time. Deep fried mac and cheese doesn't sound all that great to me though.
